MUSIC MINISTRY AT MATER CHRISTI - JOIN US IN SONG!

Music Calendar for March 2020 - pdf Document

Music Ministers help the congregation find their voice in sung prayer and praise to God. The purpose of music in liturgy is to serve the communal prayer of the assembly. As leaders of song, the sound we love to hear is the congregation singing. This means that the primary ministers of music are not the cantors, choir or instrumentalists, but rather YOU: the congregation! Music does what words alone cannot do, and pastoral musicians help the people of God connect with their hearts. Faith can grow as gathered believers sing together in unity. We invite you to learn more about the different opportunities for more active participation in leading sung prayer.

Singing with our Mater Christi Musical Groups is a wonderful way to share time and talent with your parish. Participation in the choir helps us to develop our faith and our musical skills while meeting terrific people!

If you would like additional information about any of the opportunities to participate in music ministry here at Mater Christi, please email Jeanine Watylyk at tfwjw@sbcglobal.net, or call the Rectory at 708-442-5611 and leave your name and telephone number, or come on up to the loft! All are welcome to come and give music a try!

--------------------------------------------

YOUTH CHOIR

Our Youth Choir is open to all children of the parish from 2nd to 8th Grade, under the direction of Bryant Rouleau.

Rehearsals will start on Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

The group will sing one Mass a month, rotating between the 5 pm, 9:30 am and 11 am Masses.

--------------------------------------------

ADULT CHOIR

Our Adult Choir, rehearses on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 pm in the Church.

We welcome new members and we need your help! Many of you love to sing, and do so each week in the assembly, why not come and build our music program?

We rehearse weekly from September to May and sing at three Masses a month, at 9:30 am and occasionally at the 11 am. The ability to read music is not required, only that you have a desire to listen and learn! Members are not expected to be at every Mass and rehearsal, but to be present as much as your schedule permits.

--------------------------------------------

CONTEMPORARY ENSEMBLE

Our Contemporary Ensemble sings at the 5 pm Mass on the first and third Saturday of each month from September through May.

This group rehearses on Saturday from 3:45 to 4:45 pm, and will sing twice a month at the 5 pm Mass. Anyone high school age and older is welcome to join us! If you play an instrument, please see Jeanine!

The Ensemble will begin again on Saturday, September 21, 2019 rehearsing at 3:45 pm and singing for the 5 pm Mass.

--------------------------------------------

RESURRECTION CHOIR

This group of singers join together to sing at our funeral and memorial masses throughout the year as needed.

Practice is a half hour before Mass in the choir loft. No regular commitment needed.

Come whenever you can. Our vocalists have found this experience to be especially meaningful. You can join us at any time!

Ask Jeanine after any weekend mass for more details!

--------------------------------------------

MEN’S CHOIR

This group of singers provided music on Good Friday and some of the members came to help us sing at the Christmas Masses.

Typically this group has two evening rehearsals prior to singing at mass.

This year we hope to hear the men sing more frequently throughout the year.

Mark your calendars gentlemen to sing with our combined choir on Thanksgiving!

Watch the WORD for more details! All men of the parish 14 years and older are encouraged to give it a try!

--------------------------------------------

CHOIR CHIMES

A three octave set of hand held chimes are also are a part of our music ministry and we need extra hands to help them ring!

In the past our chimers have rehearsed on Monday and Friday mornings from 8:30 to 9:15 am, twice a month, but our rehearsal time can be flexible, based on the needs of the group.

Chimes are also used with our YOUTH GROUP and on Christmas and Easter.

--------------------------------------------

CANTORS

Cantors help lead our congregation throughout the mass during the sung mass parts and hymns.

If you have any questions about becoming a cantor, please see Jeanine Watylyk in the loft after mass.

Please feel free to contact the rectory for any question you may have at 708-442-5611 and 708-442-5612
